Come eat brunch with us as a community as we talk about the next phase of launching this new church! We’ll be gathering to hang out, talk strategy and get up-to-date on the happenings of our community as we start a new gear-up towards an October 11th launch!

On May 30th at 11:30am (PDT) several churches from around the Bay Area will be descending on San Francisco to walk through and pray for our new church plant. We know that many of you from around the country will not be able to join us physically in person for this event but still wanted to make it possible for you to walk with us virtually around the city. So, we’ve created a virtual prayer walk through Google Maps. Simply click on this link and follow the buttons on the left and join us to pray for the city, our new church plant and the amazing things that God’s doing!

Saturday morning (3.7.09) rolled around and our very first Launch Community* was upon us. I didn’t really know what to expect, whether those who had RSVP’d or said, “Hey I’ll be there,” would actually show up or if we’d be left standing there at square-one needing to seriously retool our entire approach towards planting this new church. Fortunately, my greatest fears and the worst case scenario didn’t play out before my very eyes!

As we prepared and envisioned what our first Launch Community would look like I said time and again, “If we have 10 people there that’d be great! If we have 15 that’d blow my mind!” Well, neither of those classifications fit. For our very first Launch Community, 17 people showed up to participate in this new thing taking shape in the city! I could hardly believe it, but it left me realizing two things that morning : 1) There is a real need in this city for a new church; 2) God is up to something BIG! and this is just the beginning!

We spent the morning introducing ourselves to each other, eating a fantastic brunch and dreaming together of what this new church could look like to truly make a difference in the city of San Francisco. We talked about how we can impact the community for good—to literally be an integral part of hepling this city succeed—to how we could serve the city and the important aspects of who we truly want to be at our very core. It was a fun morning, an exciting morning, and the anticipation for what’s next was palpable!

Our second launch community felt the same way! At the beginning of the month (April) we had even more people than the first month, new faces and new possibilities! It was tremendously exciting! I can’t wait to see how our Launch Communities continue to grow and evolve into regular worship gatherings in October. There’s a lot to do, but things are coming along better than we could have hoped!

Our next launch community is May 2nd at 10:30a!

*Launch Community is a gathering of people who are interested in joining with us in launching this new church in the city of San Francisco.

Three weeks ago we launched our very first community group and have been amazed at how God is bringing people together from all over the place to create a new church in the heart of San Francisco. Our dream has consistently been to help people find their way back to God and it feels as if we are on the cusp of that reality. We’re continuing to move along and keep the proper perspective about things, however in order to do so we are asking for your help over the next 40 days.

Starting December 1st and ending January 9th, we’re asking you to join us and our prayer team in a time of prayer and fasting for the birth of this new church. We would like to have one or more people praying and fasting for us each day for forty days. If you would partner with us in this, you can sign up for one or more days by emailing us at prayer at thesfproject dot org and we’ll send you an email reminder the day before.  If you’re willing to take an unclaimed date or two just let us know how many days you’re willing to participate and we’ll let you know what’s open!

We’re looking forward to some BIG things from God!  Thanks for faithfully joining with us!

This past week Aaron & Tracy spent a few days at Woodlawn Christian Church in Woodlawn, Illinois presenting The San Francisco Project to the church and the kids at their annual Vacation Bible School. Each night we showed pictures of the city, talked about how great of a city it is and why it is that they need a new church. It was a great experience communicating the vision and the need for a new church in San Francisco and seeing the kids eyes light up as they began to not only understand but displayed a growing desire to help make it a reality.

It was both amazing and humbling to watch each night as the kids made their way forward to give money in the offering to help this new church become a reality. We’re excited to be partnering with an amazing church and amazing kids and to know that they’re rooting for us is tremendous!
